Between Vercors and the Baronnies Provençales, the Pays Diois contains 50 communes, including the town of Die and the smaller centres of Châtillon-en-Diois, Luc-en-Diois, Lus-La-Croix-Haute, La Motte-Chalancon and Saint-Nazaire-le-Désert. Below the Catholic and Protestant churches, lie the charming traditional houses with their wine cellars, their ground floor byres, their living space on the first floor and their storage lofts below the roof, all bathing in sunlight. The Diois mountain farms are of voluminous proportions, their hipped roofs covered with the Dauphinois tradition tiles, whilst in the valleys the gently sloping roofs with Roman type tiles act as a harbinger of Provence.
