The River Drome is,
of course, the biggest and best known. The Drome begins its course
near Valdrôme at La Bâtie des Fonds forming delightful
pools around the giant rocks at Le Claps near Luc en Diois, before
passing the towns of Die and Crest to empty eventually into the
Rhone some 110 kilometers from its source.
It is fed along the way by smaller rivers, including the Bez, and
is a fun destination for rafters in spring and for canoeing and
kayaking in summer.

But there are also other rivers and lakes where you can take a
refreshing dip in summer or perhaps go fishing – or simply
relax by the edge of the water.
Look for the Brette, the
Sure, the Buëch,
the Plan d’eau at Pas des
Ondes, and the Lac Bleu
near Châtillon-en-Diois; enchanting places to discover and
explore.

The water is not always placid : the falls in the area are ideal
for more physical pursuits such as canyoning and there are many
gorges in the region, etched out over millennia by time and the
flow of the water: the Rio Sourd,
the Gorges de Gâts,
the Roanne Gorges,
the Pommerol Gorges and the
St Moirans Gorges are some of the beautiful places to explore
and enjoy.
